On September 20 Hurricane Maria caused massive destruction to Puerto Rico when it hit.

Those who survived the storm are estimated to face months without power, and much of the island's water is undrinkable. Recovering from the damage caused by Maria-which came just after Hurricane Irma had knocked out 70% of the island's power.

Hurricane Maria initially reportedly killed at least 55 people across the Caribbean now we know In May 2018 Harvard’s T.H. Chan School of Public Health published a study that estimated there had been 4,645 excess deaths in Puerto Rico in a roughly three-month period after Hurricane Maria made landfall there.  Maria is the strongest storm to hit Puerto Rico in more than 80 years.

For the last 50 years, our Puerto Rican Festival of Massachusetts- a non-for-profit 501c3 organization- has been a cultural awareness and community service organization to our beloved people. Now more than ever this organization has taken action in line with our mission and beliefs to represent not only our culture through our yearly festival but with community service helping and supporting those here and in Puerto Rico. Due to the devastation Maria has caused to our island of Puerto Rico, we are in full disaster relief mode. We are Boston Strong For Puerto Rico and Friends. We are working on providing relief efforts to our people in Puerto Rico, we are raising awareness regarding the devastation as well as organizing and collaborating with other grass root non-for-profit organizations to assist the people on the island.

As our motto : "Staying united, working together to keep our culture alive"- together we are one" we must work together for the common goal of simply helping each other from the heart.

Please let's not forget our fellow American citizens on our island that are still suffering from the devastation. It will take months if not years to stabilize the most hard hit areas and we need everyones help to get the Island back on it's feet.
